On a recent trip to the Dallas-Fort Worth area, we stopped in historic downtown Mansfield to visit Old Vine Texas, and Mansfield was a pleasant surprise. It had a quaint, small-town feel that made it a nice place to spend part of the afternoon. Arriving at Old Vine Texas, we ended up getting two Texas wine experiences in one stop.
Old Vine Texas opened on June 21, 2024, and is owned by husband-and-wife team Erik and Emily Beyer. The Beyers created Old Vine Texas to introduce more people to 100% Texas wines from around the state that can’t be found locally.

We enjoyed the atmosphere as soon as we arrived. Nice jazz was playing in the background for those who were enjoying the Texas wine, making it an easy place to sit back and enjoy a glass.
Old Vine Texas offers a variety of Texas wines by the glass along with featured tastings, and pizzas are available if you want something to eat while you are there. Erik and Emily are also preparing to release two wines of their own.

Burning Daylight Estate Winery
Although Burning Daylight has its own vineyard in Burleson, the vineyard is located in a residential neighborhood. Because of that, its tasting room is located about seven miles away inside Old Vine Texas in Mansfield. Visitors can enjoy Burning Daylight wines there by the flight, glass, or bottle.
Burning Daylight actually began well before the winery. David and Missy Gudal founded Burning Daylight Vineyards in 2012. After an opportunity arose to expand their vineyard operations to Eastland, they considered selling the original vineyard. Instead, neighborhood families Gavin and Angela Callaway along with Gene and Carmen Joe joined David and Missy to continue the vineyard and create Burning Daylight Estate Winery. Their first wine under the Burning Daylight label was released in December 2024. Today, the boutique vineyard and winery is owned and operated by those three families.

Burning Daylight Estate Winery wines
The Burning Daylight wines we tasted were made by Tyler Bower of Wintergrass Vineyard and Winery. Tyler is certainly no stranger to Texas Wine Lover since we previously featured him in a Winemaker Profile.
We also learned that future red wines will be made by Bénédicte Rhyne of Rhyne Wines at Untamed Wine Estates, while Angela Callaway is learning the winemaking side of the business herself.

I have been wanting to try Burning Daylight’s wines but had not previously had the opportunity. Old Vine Texas was the answer. We opted to taste all ten wines from Burning Daylight as the tastings are for five wines. We each selected a different wine, so the one-ounce pours were split between the two of us.
There were the Burning Daylight wines available to choose from during our visit:
- 2024 Mon Soleil (60% Sauvignon Blanc and 40% Vermentino)
- 2023 Soleil Levant (100% Fumé Blanc)
- 2024 Soleil Levant (100% Fumé Blanc)
- 2023 Capella (80% Cabernet Franc, 20% Petite Sirah)
- 2024 Barrel No. 2 (100% Cabernet Franc)
- 2024 du Soleil (100% Cabernet Franc)
- 2023 du Soleil (100% Cabernet Franc)
- 2024 Meritas (100% Cabernet Franc)
- 2024 Tre Amis (62% Cabernet Franc, 26% Sangiovese, 8% Petite Sirah, 4% Cabernet Sauvignon)
- 2024 Lilas (100% Syrah)
I thought the Cabernet Franc wines were particularly good. My personal favorites were the 2023 Capella, the 2024 Tre Amis, and the 2024 Lilas.

Emily & Erik Beyer
Old Vine Texas turned out to be a very enjoyable visit. You can explore their large selection of 100% Texas wines from different producers around the state, enjoy some food while you taste, and, through Burning Daylight Estate Winery, even experience the wines of a nearby North Texas vineyard without leaving downtown Mansfield.
And with Old Vine Texas beginning to produce wines of its own, there will be even more reason to return.
