The tasting was complimentary and all opinions are our own.
K Estate Vineyards, one of the premier tasting rooms on the renowned Wine Road 290 between Fredericksburg and Johnson City, has just launched curated food and wine pairings, featuring small bites from their on-site restaurant, K Bistro.
Following a major renovation that introduced a stunning modern-farmhouse tasting room with panoramic vineyard views, members-only shaded patios with fans, firepits, and lush gardens, K Estate (formerly Kuhlman Cellars) now offers guests an elevated way to experience its wines. K Estate’s estate wines are grown using no-till farming, organic nutrients, and biodiversity-focused practices guided by the belief that healthy soil grows better wine.

For $40 per person, visitors can enjoy four chef-crafted pairings:
- Fresh Ahi tuna tossed in a soy ginger sauce, served atop sliced cucumber and garnished with green onion, paired with K Estate Sémillon
- Chef’s famous chicken salad with parsley garnish on a deep-fried kettle chip, paired with K Estate Rosé of Syrah or Malbec
- K Estate Herbed Almonds: Marcona almonds coated in a special blend of Herbes de Provence and smoked sea salt, paired with K Estate Pinot Noir
- A fried wonton chip topped with slowly cooked Teriyaki eye of round pulled beef, finished with fresh cilantro, paired with K Estate Cabernet Sauvignon
I visited K Estate Vineyards to see the recent renovations and also do a tasting of the new food and wine pairings. These are the wines I was able to taste:
- 2024 Sémillon – Texas High Plains, paired with Ahi tuna
- 2025 Rosé of Syrah – Texas High Plains, paired with chicken salad
- 2023 Pinot Noir – Sonoma County, paired with herbed almonds
- 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon – Red Hills Lake County, paired with a wonton chip and pulled beef
I was also able to taste the 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon from the Oak Knoll region in southern Napa Valley, and I preferred this one over the Red Hills Lake County Cab.
The new food and wine pairing can be done for $40, while a classic wine tasting without food is $30. For the little extra money, I recommend selecting the food and wine pairing.

K Bistro
The new K Bistro provides a nice venue for Heath Family Brands wine club members to enjoy a bite or a glass of wine while visiting K Estate Vineyards. All facilities, such as the lounge overlooking the vineyard and the seating on the patios, are available only to wine club members. This has changed since Heath Family Brands first acquired the location and is now aligned with all the other Heath Family Brands locations.
