There’s something uniquely different about Un Sueño Vineyard – something that goes beyond the vines, the view, and even the wine itself. It’s a place built not just on the beautiful rolling hills of Pittsburg, TX, but on a long-held dream by owner and winemaker, Arnulfo Perez. The name says it all: Un Sueño = A Dream.
We traveled north to attend the Grand Opening for Un Sueño Vineyard on a beautiful Northeast Texas day. As we arrived, we were greeted at the door by a tasting room employee. We soon realized that much of the staff on this day were family members. We were told that all five children are involved in the business. After taking pictures of the new tasting room, we were seated at a table where we ordered a small tapas board that probably could have fed four people—they have a great selection of food on their menu. We had just started our tasting when Arnulfo arrived and joined us, along with his daughter Araceli Perez, who is the Business Operations Manager, plus his wife Araceli Perez.

Arnulfo and Araceli Perez
Arnulfo told us he grew up in Northern Mexico on his family’s modest sugar cane farm. While they didn’t have much, his Mamá Lucina taught them about the value of working hard and, most importantly, following their dreams. At the age of 16, Arnulfo moved to the United States, first working in North Carolina framing houses and then to Texas in 2000, where he was the first employee hired by Los Pinos Ranch Vineyards in Pittsburg, TX, and “the dream” began.
Working in the wine production room, Arnulfo became the first Hispanic winemaker in Texas in 2005. While at Los Pinos, the future founder of Un Sueño Vineyard learned the art of winemaking—the balance between chemistry and creativity, and the joy of watching people connect over a glass of wine. Under his guidance, the winery achieved multiple accolades in wine competitions, reflecting on his commitment to excellence in winemaking. It was a place where “the dream” began to feel real.

Un Sueño is a product of Arnulfo’s hard work and dedication to making great wines. By building the tasting room, planting the vines in his small vineyard, and making more great wines, he is achieving his dream!

While visiting with Arnulfo, we tasted all the wines that were available that day. They offer a selection of wines for a set price; you get to pick.

We enjoyed all of the wines we tasted and took home a bottle of the 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon, 2024 Sangiovese, and 2024 Chardonnay.
As we were nearing the end of our meeting, Arnulfo explained that in the Spanish language, there is a big difference between “Sueño” and “Un Sueño.” Sueño by itself means “an individual dream,” while Un Sueño means “A dream for all.” He is trying to build a dream for all of us! He wants Un Sueño to be his legacy and something he can pass on to his family.
On our way out, he showed us a bottle of Mamá Lucina and a beautiful picture that he said represents to him his dream. He plans to hang the picture in the tasting room and create a label with it to place on bottles of Mamá Lucina wine.
