The Periwinkle Foundation celebrates Houston’s premier wine tasting and sommelier competition sponsored by AUTOSOL on Thursday, November 7 where the city’s finest sommeliers will be put to the test for the title of Iron Sommelier.
Benefitting The Periwinkle Foundation programs for pediatric cancer patients, guests are invited to sample wines in a private setting at The Post Oak Hotel at Uptown Houston. Competing sommeliers will select three wines that focus on a particular wine region, grape or style and personally present the wines they are pouring, while conversing with guests as they taste and compare. A panel of judges will rate the sommeliers on their wine choice, presentation, creativity, and knowledge of their wine selections.
Guests will have access to an exciting wine pull, auction, raffle, and children’s art sales. They can also cast their “corks” for the People’s Choice Award.

World-renowned winemaker Paul Hobbs will be at Iron Sommelier 2024. Few people have made a bigger imprint on wine than Hobbs. For the past 40 years, he has produced legendary wines in America and abroad. Referred to as the “The Steve Jobs of Wine” by Forbes Magazine, Hobbs has been twice named “Wine Personality of the Year” by Robert Parker of The Wine Advocate. He went from working at Robert Mondavi and Opus One to creating his own array of brilliant wineries including Paul Hobbs Winery, Crossbarn, Viña Cobos, Crocus, Yacoubian-Hobbs, and Alvaredos-Hobbs. He is truly one of the world’s greatest and most celebrated winemakers. Paul will join guests in the Underwriter Room sharing one of his wines as well as serving as an Iron Sommelier guest judge.
