Tucked away in the heart of Hemphill, Texas lies a hidden gem – Tebo Creek Winery. But what makes this winery truly unique is its location – nestled within Hammock Furniture Store! That’s correct, wine and furniture come together in perfect harmony at Tebo Creek Winery.
My wife and I were planning a trip to Deep East Texas to visit Pineywoods Vineyard and found on the Texas Wine Lover app that there was another winery in Hemphill, so we added it to our agenda. We arrived at Hammock Furniture and were greeted by Dawn Procell and Henry Alvarado, co-owners of Tebo Creek Winery. Dawn quickly informed us that Tebo Creek Winery co-owners Monica and Kirk Butler, who are the owners of Hammock Furniture, were not available on this day for our visit. We were invited to the back corner of the store which was remodeled into a very comfortable tasting room. Dawn said that originally, they were looking for downtown property but had this space available in the store and chose to locate there instead.

Tebo Creek Winery opened in 2021 and was the first winery in Sabine County. This resulted from the innovative spirit of two educators, Dawn and Monica, who were looking for something truly special after they retired. They originally thought of planting a small vineyard on a piece of property that Dawn says is “one of the most beautiful places in Sabine County – Tebo Creek.” The vineyard has taken a back seat to opening the tasting room which offers 100% Texas wines. It is a space where locals and visitors alike can come together, whether for a casual tasting, a glass or bottle of their favorite wine, a special event, or simply to enjoy the tasting room ambiance.

Dawn suggested we taste the wines available on this visit. They offer a selection of wines for tastings that you pick for a set price. These are the wines that were available and we tasted:
Whites and Rosés
- 2020 Blanc du Bois (Dry)
- 2021 Trebbiano (Dry)
- 2022 Viognier (Dry)
- 2021 Muscat Canelli (Sweet)
Red
- 2021 Tempranillo Rosé (Dry)
- 2021 Dolcetto (Dry)
- 2022 Sangiovese (Dry)
- 2020 Black Spanish (Semi-sweet)
They also offer frozen Wine-A-Ritas. All of the wines were excellent. We brought home the 2021 Trebbiano, 2022 Sangiovese, and the 2020 Black Spanish.

Tebo Creek Winery is a hidden gem that offers a refreshing break from the ordinary and a chance to discover the joys of 100% Texas wines in a setting that is unique and memorable. It’s an experience that combines great wines, the best of Texas hospitality, and the innovative spirit of two retired educators who have found a calling in creating something truly special.
