Coordinates Vineyards Finds a Second Home in Hye

You are probably aware of Coordinates Vineyards located on Main Street in Fredericksburg. The tasting room owned by brothers Austin and Mahlon Kerr opened in 2021. Now there is a second location in Hye.

I visited the new location in Hye recently. If you have driven down US 290 in Hye, no doubt you have recognized the beautiful farmhouse with a vineyard in front. It had been used for different things over the years but now it is the home to Coordinates Vineyards – Hye.

We wrote about the first location of Coordinates Vineyards before, and you may have seen the sign in front with the GPS coordinates 30°27’05″N 98°86’62″W. Those are the GPS coordinates for the tasting room in Fredericksburg. Inside the Hye location in the tasting room is a sign with the GPS coordinates of 30°14’36″N 98°34’05″W. Those are the coordinates of the second location and specifically in the front vineyard.

I visited the new location with a friend and co-owner Austin Kerr greeted us. I wanted to see the new location and I wanted to introduce my friend to Coordinates Vineyards wines.

If you heard Coordinates Vineyards only has South African wines, please make a visit. Besides those wines as explained in the previous post about the original location, there are a number of Texas wines. These were some of the wines that we tasted:

• Sparkling Brut
• 2023 Picpoul Blanc – Reddy Vineyards – Texas
• 2022 Sauvignon Blanc – Stellenbosch, South Africa
• 2022 Chenin Blanc – Stellenbosch, South Africa
• 2021 Pinotage – Stellenbosch, South Africa
• 2020 Pinotage Reserve – Stellenbosch, South Africa

I realize now that it shows only one Texas wine, but Coordinates Vineyards has more. It’s just these were the ones we tasted.

I find it amazing how Pinotage has become since I first tasted it over 10 years ago at a TEXSOM Conference. Back then, the wine was enjoyed by the few people I was around, but in the past five years or so, suddenly the wine is being accepted more and makes a great wine for an evening. Coordinates Vineyards has those types of Pinotages. If you have never had a Pinotage, I recommend visiting Coordinates Vineyards.

After our tasting, we walked outside to see the Tannat vineyard in front. Austin said the vineyard has been a lot of work, but it is nice having the fruit available. If you want to help harvest, that should be happening soon so get in touch with Coordinates Vineyards.

The new location of Coordinates Vineyards in Hye is a beautiful location with a lot of seating inside and lovely outside seating under shade trees with a view of the vineyard nearby. I can definitely recommend visiting Coordinates Vineyards in Hye.
