Two Brothers Winery

Two Brothers Winery is located in Keller which is a short drive north of Fort Worth. The winery is family-owned and operated by two brothers, Brian and Eddie Kirkwood, and their spouses, Stephanie and Donna. The winery opened in 2019.

On a recent North Texas trip, I made a point to visit Two Brothers Winery during the week. The winery is open until late evening, but since I arrived in the afternoon, the regular wine crowd had not started to come yet. This made it convenient to enjoy a wine flight and learn about Two Brothers Winery.

I settled in at the tasting bar and perused the large two-sided tasting menu. Wines are on one side of the menu and the other side has mostly food items from which there is a large selection. Wine flights are four or five wines, or one can get a Chocolate Bliss flight that is four pre-selected wines paired with a chocolate treat. I opted for a four-wine flight so I could select my wines.

The four wines I selected were:

• Tempranillo
• Syrah
• Malbec Reserve
• GSM (60% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 20% Mourvèdre). Bronze winner at the 2022-23 Texas International Wine Competition.

While sipping, I learned that both Brian and Eddie Kirkwood make the wines. I specifically was looking to try Texas wines, but I discovered that all the juice to make the wines comes from California except for the Malbec Reserve which comes from Reddy Vineyards fruit. I did buy the Malbec Reserve and it was a 2021 vintage and the label said: “Bottled By Two Brothers Winery.” That would mean Reddy Vineyards probably provided the finished Malbec wine from their custom crush facility.

Learning how the wines were made probably explains why there were no vintage dates for the wines on the menu. The only blend that Two Brothers Winery currently makes is the GSM.

Two Brothers Winery offers other types of wine such as:

• White wines – dry to sweet
• Sweet Fruit wines
• Blush wines
• Sparkling wines
• Dessert wines

There are more red wines from which to select than I had. One is a Bourbon Barrel Cabernet Sauvignon that is aged 60 days in a Bendt Distilling Bourbon Barrel. The barrels were present in the tasting room which was nice to see. In fact, the entire production room is visible from the tasting room if one wants to peek in to see the winemakers at work.

Before I left, the tasting guide gave me a small sample of the wine Joyphyl Acres which is a pecan-saturated Merlot. I am not a fan of pecans, but it was very tasty. Interestingly enough, later that night when I was meeting some other wine friends, one of them learned I had been at Two Brothers and said if they had known, they would have asked me to bring them a bottle of Joyphyl Acres!

The tasting room is nicely decorated and there are plenty of tables or the tasting bar available to enjoy your wine. For those nice weather days, there is a large outside patio that can be used too.
