Bingham Family Vineyard’s Blake Eddie Scholarship wine is not only a 100% Texas wine contributing to a good cause, but it’s only available at H-E-B. This is a solution for those of us frustrated that Texas wines are hard to find.
Bingham Family Vineyards has partnered with the Texas Hill Country Wineries association to provide financial support to students studying viticulture and enology in the state of Texas. Blake Eddie Bingham was the fifth child of Cliff and Betty Bingham, owners and founders of Bingham Family Vineyards. Growing up surrounded by his family’s vineyards, he gained a curiosity for the world and an innate kindness. A portion of the proceeds of this project go directly towards improving the Texas wine industry through educational access and support.
The Blake Bingham Memorial Scholarship was established in 2021 in partnership with the Texas Hill Country Wineries association. The wine will be a bit different each year. The 2019 Bingham Blake Eddie Scholarship wine is a Tempranillo blend, carefully crafted after aging in French and American barrels for 24 months. The wine is a dry red with notes of sour cherry, dried fig, and baking spices. Pair with carne asada tacos or a meaty pasta dish.

The Texas Hill Country Wineries Scholarship Program was established in 2016 when $5 from each passport ticket was put towards the scholarship fund. In that inaugural year, about $6,000 was awarded. Since then, the program has grown, with 50 students awarded a total of $90,000. Since 2021, a special scholarship has been awarded in Blake Eddie Bingham’s name. Scholarship applications typically open in late spring and are open to Texas residents enrolled in a Texas school, college, or certificate program relating to the wine industry with goals of returning to Texas wine in the future. The winners of the 2023 scholarships will be announced at the coming Texas Hill Country Wineries Symposium at Horseshoe Bay Resort on February 5th.
