Everybody needs an event venue at one time, and one popular venue in the Hill Country for weddings and private events is La Marguerite in Fredericksburg. The business, owned by John Luke Mannix, opened the event venue in September 2023 and recently opened a wine tasting room at the location featuring their High Gun Wines.
The 217-year-old Amish barn was brought to the location, and an architect remodeled the incredible building into its current use as an event center and tasting room. The large interior features a catwalk along the outside walls, and an expansive fireplace occupies the center of the building.
Tastings are done at either a tasting bar on one side or in the comfortable seating in front of the fireplace. I opted for the latter and enjoyed the beauty of the fireplace on a rainy day while tasting the wines.
These are the wines that were available at the time of my visit:
- 2022 High Gun Proprietary White (62% Moscato Giallo, 33% Grüner Veltliner, 5% Muscat Canelli) – Texas High Plains
- 2022 Chardonnay – Napa Valley
- 2021 High Gun Proprietary Red (GSM with 23% Grenache, 41% Syrah, 36% Mourvèdre) – Texas High Plains
- 2021 Mourvèdre (77% Mourvèdre, 23% Grenache) – Texas High Plains
John Luke Mannix wants to offer 100% Texas wines, but the need to offer wines immediately was necessary. La Marguerite and High Gun Wines are on an 11,000-acre property. They will be planting a vineyard soon and will be planting what the land dictates for the suggested varieties.
Besides wine, High Gun Wines offers a variety of coffees, and there are even coffee tastings or wine and coffee pairings available. A charcuterie tray featuring exotic meats such as venison, boar, and water buffalo is also available.
We recommend reserving your private event or wedding at La Marguerite and visiting High Gun Wines to enjoy their selection of wines and coffees.
