Two wine competitions were held this year and Texas wineries won awards.
Winemaker Challenge International Wine Competition
The Winemaker Challenge International Wine Competition held its competition on April 15 and 16th. The wine competition is one of the only wine competitions 100% judged by noted winemakers. As with other wine competitions, all entries are judged blind.
The Director’s Awards for Texas wineries were:
- Best Albariño: McPherson Cellars 2022 Albariño, Texas High Plains, $20.00, Gold, 92 points
- Best Misc. Red Blend: Grape Creek Vineyards 2020 Serendipity, $50.00, Platinum, 94 points

Critics Challenge International Wine & Spirits Competition
The Critics Challenge International Wine & Spirits Competition was held from June 23-25.
Founded by wine critic Robert Whitley in 2003, Critics Challenge is one of the most important and respected wine and spirits competitions in the world. Entries are judged blind by noted wine and spirits journalists, bloggers, and critics.
