In 2017, Bryan Chagoly dove headfirst into the Texas wine world when he, his wife, and her family started planting a vineyard in the Texas Hill Country called Sandy Road Vineyards. A winemaker married into the family – you may have heard of him, Reagan Sivadon, winemaker at Ron Yates and Spicewood Vineyards. The family decided to grow vines because the industry needed more grapes, they had some ranch land, and Reagan could make some wine.

Bryan’s IT background and analytical mind made him curious if he could find a pattern in which grape varietals from Texas vineyards were winning the most awards. He collected the results from various international wine awards, gathering details on the grapes winning gold medals in competitions worldwide. And specifically, the Texas wines winning these awards. This information could help the family decide what direction the vineyard and winery should take.
Using the data he has collected over the past five years, he created TopTexasWines.com to curate the list of all Texas wines that have won gold medals. There are over 500 wineries in Texas, and it can be difficult for wine enthusiasts to decide which wineries to visit or what wines to drink.
The site only lists wines that are gold-medal winners or better. And only those produced from 100% Texas grapes. Consumers can click on a direct link to the winery’s online shopping platform to buy a bottle with just a few clicks.
In 2022, 84 Texas wineries won 353 Gold medal awards – or higher – in international wine competitions. The top ten wineries were Becker Vineyards, Llano Estacado Winery, Ron Yates, Bending Branch Winery, Ab Astris Winery, Longhorn Cellars, Messina Hof Winery, Wedding Oak Winery, Sandy Road Vineyards, and Spicewood Vineyards. You can even search the site for top-winning reds, whites, rosé, sparkling, or sweet wines. If your goal is to drink the best Texas wines possible, then TopTexasWines.com makes it easy.
