Wedding Oak Winery 2020 Tannat – Hye Top Vineyards, Texas Hill Country
Bold, but balanced red wine. With aromas and flavors of plum and blueberry, there is a hint of campfire smoke. The wine is tannic as you’d expect from a Tannat, but with softer edges and a smooth finish reminding me of dried sage flowers. I shared the wine with some industry friends in North Texas and it paired perfectly with Krista (KK) Hartman’s chorizo stuffed dates wrapped in bacon.
Wedding Oak Winery was started in the small town of San Saba in 2011. The name is a nod to the 400 year-old oak tree in the area, which is known as the Wedding Oak. This majestic tree has a history of ceremonies and weddings that date back to the Native Americans and early settlers. From the small-town vibe to the tasting room and winery located in a historic building, Wedding Oak Winery likes to keep a connection to nature and the importance of place. In time, two additional tasting rooms have opened near Fredericksburg and in downtown Burnet.
