The World’s Best Vineyards organization has revealed this year’s top wine destinations for 2022 at an event held in Argentina’s wine capital, Mendoza. The annual list which highlights the world’s finest and most diverse vineyards across the globe included William Chris Vineyards as the 56th best vineyard in the world.
The 2022 list includes more countries than ever before with 20 from all six continents being featured. There are only seven U.S. vineyards on the list, including William Chris Vineyards as the first, and only, Texas winery featured.
William Chris Vineyards was founded in the Texas Hill Country in 2008 by Chris Brundrett and Bill Blackmon in Hye, Texas in the historic 1905 Dieke Farmhouse. Since then, William Chris has expanded the vineyard and now partners with local farms to source the highest quality Texas fruit. The winemakers at William Chris utilize a hands-off, low-intervention approach, allowing the characteristics of the fruit to shine through in the final product. William Chris Vineyards aims to showcase the beauty of Texas-grown wine and deliver a world-class educational experience in order to build fans and stewards of the state’s wine industry.
“It is such an honor to be included on the prestigious list of World’s Best Vineyards, especially as the first and only Texas winery,” said Chris Brundrett, co-founder, and CEO of William Chris Wine Company. “We’ve worked tirelessly to show the world that Texas has a place among the great wine destinations of the world, and we see this as a victory not just for William Chris Vineyards, but for the Texas wine industry as a whole. We’re excited to celebrate this with our partners and peers.”
The World’s Best Vineyards annual list highlights the top vineyards to visit globally and aims to promote wine tourism around the world. Each year the list showcases unique vineyards with unrivaled visitor experiences, from modern architectural wonders, UNESCO-protected ancient cellars, and Michelin-starred restaurants to family-run wineries with intimate tours. The Voting Academy consists of over 500 leading wine experts, sommeliers, and travel experts, and they submit their nominations based on the different criteria that make the best destination vineyard, including quality of the overall experience, ambiance, cuisine, activities, views, staff, and value for money. The submissions are then voted on, and the results are collated and converted into the World’s Best Vineyards list.
