Das Peach Haus is a beloved gift shop having sauces, condiments, and preserves for many years. Mark Wieser opened Das Peach Haus in a restored 1870 log cabin in 1969. He teamed up with Case Fischer in 1986 to become Fischer & Wieser Specialty Foods. When we visited Das Peach Haus around 2010, the store was a location for wines from Oberhof Wine Cellars. They changed to instead offer wine tastings for different wineries in their store. Upon our last visit to Fredericksburg, we learned that Das Peach Haus was back to being the tasting bar for Fischer & Wieser Culinary Adventure Wine and it is the only location that does tastings for Fischer & Wieser.
After visiting another location for Fischer & Wieser and learning of that, we headed to Das Peach Haus. It is always an enjoyable time visiting the store because you get to taste several different foods while there which are all high quality. During this visit, we learned there is now a Dietz Distillery next door owned by son Dietz Fischer.
Since we have visited the store before, we knew where to go but were surprised when we entered, and a room inside had been converted into a full tasting bar for the winery. This was much bigger than the previous times we had visited.
There are no wine flights or tasting per se so instead, you pay per tasting of a particular wine. The wines now for Fischer & Wieser Culinary Adventure Wine are made by Messina Hof and Georgetown Winery.
These are some of the wines that were available at the time of our visit:
- Gewürztraminer
- Peach Moscato – semi-sweet made with peaches from their vineyard
- Sweet Blush
- Sangria (Peach, Blackberry, Blackberry) – Georgetown Winery
- Blueberry (Blueberry, Blanc du Bois) – Georgetown Winery
- Blackberry (Blanc du Bois, Blackberry) – Georgetown Winery
- Lone Star Peach (100% peaches) – sweet – Georgetown Winery
- Chardonnay
- Viognier – dry
- Dry Riesling
- Malbec
- Sangiovese (80% Sangiovese 20% Cabernet Sauvignon)
- Cabernet Sauvignon
- König Red (Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec)
If you haven’t been to Das Peach Haus in a while, it is time to visit again to taste some sauces, condiments, preserves, and Texas wine!
