Do you happen to get side effects from drinking wine like headaches, congestion, skin flush, or upset stomach? The product PureWine is supposed to eliminate those symptoms by offering two unique filtration systems that eliminate the histamines and sulfites that cause wine allergies without altering the flavor the wines.
I received this offer before to provide a review, but fortunately I do not have an issue and when I reached out to the writing team at Texas Wine Lover, they didn’t get those symptoms either. I have heard people complain of some of these issues though, so I checked with the members of the Texas Wine Lover Website Facebook group to see if anybody was available to try PureWine. Following are reviews from three of those members.
PureWine has two products, The Wand and The Wave. The Wand is a wine purifier that is used in your glass of wine while The Wave is inserted in a wine bottle.
The Wand
By Lori Costo
I received a sample of The Wand from PureWine, Inc. The patented wine filter “alleviates headaches and congestion from wine by removing up to 95% of histamines and sulfites. Brings out the natural taste and health benefits of wine.”
I chose a 2019 Cabernet blend by Robert Mondavi in the under $10 range. I followed the directions to swirl The Wand in one glass of red or white wine (6 oz) and then soak the wand for at least three minutes.
The Wand is intended for single use only and was disposed after using. The picture is of The Wand after use.
I swirled The Wand gently, not vigorously. The Wand seemed to soften the wine and did not leave an unpleasant aftertaste. I did not have any headache or congestion throughout the evening nor overnight.
I would recommend The Wand to those who experience histamine reactions inhibiting the enjoyment of wine. I would also recommend using The Wand if one wanted to consume a glass of wine without decanting or allowing the opening up for a bit.
The Wand and The Wave:

Sometimes even after just a few sips of wine, I could tell that I wouldn’t be able to finish it. Instant red flush and sometimes an instant headache would happen. PureWine has fixed that for me! I can take The Wand with me to use on an unknown wine and I don’t have to worry about a headache or hangover the next morning. With The Wand, now I know that I will feel fine the next morning after having a couple glasses of wine.
I did try using The Wave, but we couldn’t get it to pour properly. We did take it out to let it drain, but it still airlocked every time we poured.
The Wave:

I tried The Wave Wine Filter and Aerator and I can happily report that I did not have any headaches that night or the next day!
Wine almost always gives me a headache, and it doesn’t seem to matter if it’s white, rosé, or red. I’m not sure why it happens. I have seasonal allergies that affect my sinus and cause congestion and sinus pressure. I don’t know what it is in the wine that triggers the headaches. It may be the natural histamines in the wine, or added ingredients like sulfites that are used to preserve the wine.
I liked how The Wave fit right on the bottle and filters the wine as you pour through the spout. There is a long straw attached with a hole at the bottom for the wine to flow through, but there is a small problem with the design. As you tip the bottle to pour, the wine moves away from the hole and will not go up the straw when the bottle is at the half full point. It worked at first with a full bottle, but then I had to remove the straw so I could pour the wine out. I don’t understand the purpose of the straw. At first, I thought the straw was the filter, but it’s just plastic and the filter seems to be located inside the spout.
I noticed a big a difference when I used The Wave to filter the wine. I was completely headache-free. I tried it with two different wines that were both red. I also used it with a white wine a few days later. I think it is meant to only be used with one bottle, but I used it on three bottles on three different days. I rinsed the filter and let it dry out before using it again. It seemed to work all three times.
I had a glass of a French Rosé later, but I did not use the filter. I had a headache within 30 minutes after drinking the wine, and had to take a couple Advil to treat the pain and some allergy medicine to clear up the sinus issues.
It is much more pleasant to drink wine knowing that I won’t be suffering the after effects. I find that if I take Advil or allergy medicine before I drink wine that it often dulls my taste buds, causes a metallic taste, and impairs my ability to enjoy the wine and experience the flavor nuances.
I would definitely recommend The Wave if you suffer from allergies or wine headaches. I think it’s a great product and I’m so glad I had a chance to try it.
