Most likely you have watched some winery virtual tastings online during our stay at home during the COVID-19 pandemic. What? You haven’t? Then coming up is when you want to start because Texas Wine Lover’s own Carl Hudson will be co-hosting upcoming virtual tastings along with renowned winemaker extraordinaire Jim Evans of Lost Oak Winery who is celebrating his 40th Texas harvest this year!
The Zoom virtual tastings will take place on Friday, July 31st at 6 p.m. and Saturday, August 1st at 5 p.m. The two Texas wine experts will guide you through a tasting of three wines (or all six if you’re feeling adventurous or want to sign up for both dates). The two different wine tasting packs each include three bottles of wine either dry or sweet. Learn about the grape varieties, the wine aromas, flavors, characteristics, and more during the guided, interactive tasting.
Purchase the wines now online (links are below) and you will receive a link to the Zoom virtual tasting the day prior to your scheduled tasting.
Jim Evans – Winemaker at Lost Oak Winery

Jim Evans is a pioneer in the Texas wine industry with 40 years of winemaking experience. After graduating from Texas A&M in 1984, he joined the University of Texas’ Experimental Viticulture and Enology program. In 1996, he began making wine for Lone Oak Vineyards. Lone Oak Vineyards would eventually become Lost Oak Winery and Jim has continued making wine there ever since. His wines have won countless awards over the years, including five Double Golds medals. TWGGA (Texas Wine and Grape Growers Association) awarded him the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2011 and the Louis F. Qualia award for Outstanding Contributions to the Texas Wine Industry in 2017. He served as President of TWGGA in 2014. Jim claims that wine is made in the vineyard and a winemaker should just guide the process and not interfere too much. We should let the wine be an expression of the grape.
Carl Hudson – Wine Educator and Blogger for Carl’s Corner

Carl Hudson has 20 years of experience in the wine industry. Originally a research scientist in the petroleum industry with a Ph.D. in organic chemistry, Carl’s love for wine led him to the wine industry. He became involved with William Heritage Vineyards in New Jersey in 2000. After his retirement, he immersed himself in the grape growing and winemaking business, eventually serving as assistant winemaker at William Heritage. Drawn back to his home state, Texas, Carl joined 4.0 Cellars in Fredericksburg as a Wine Educator. His informational wine blog (Carl’s Corner) has won him the 2018 TWGGA Wine Press Award and he serves on program committees for both TWGGA and Texas Hill Country Wineries).
