Award-winning Messina Hof Winery has launched a new wine brand, Bonarrigo Family Wines. The Heritage Series brand honors the strength, family dynamic, and tradition of Messina Hof’s Bonarrigo family who began making wine in Messina, Sicily over 200 years ago. For seven generations, the Bonarrigos have produced wines of passion and heart.
The premium wine collection uses Italian varietals grown in Texas. The first releases of the Bonarrigo namesake brand include the 2018 Heritage Select dry white wine blend and the 2018 Heritage Reserve dry red wine blend adding to the 100% Texas wines that are made by Messina Hof Winery. With traditional Old-World style characteristics and flavor profiles, each wine was designed to pair with rustic Italian dishes and be enjoyed at family meals and celebrations.
“With this new label, the Bonarrigo Family is embracing our heritage and honoring the heart and passion that generations of Bonarrigos have poured into the home, the kitchen, and the art of winemaking,” said Owner and Winemaker Paul M. Bonarrigo. “Everything in an Italian household revolves around the family, and our hope is that these prestigious Old-World style wines will lead family and friends to the table together to experience food, wine, and fellowship.”
The refreshing dry style Heritage Select is made with 83% Pinot Grigio grapes and 17% Trebbiano and offers delicate aromas of honeysuckle and white flowers while crisp citrus flavors and bright acidity are complemented by a smooth tropical finish and medium body. In contrast, the Heritage Reserve is a blend of 55% Sagrantino, 30% Primitivo, and 15% Sangiovese with savory nuances of herbs and spice, beautiful dark fruit flavors, and tannins that coat the palate with elegant complexity.
The two wines can be purchased at each of Messina Hof’s three Texas locations, the Messina Hof Estate Winery in Bryan, Messina Hof Hill Country Winery in Fredericksburg and Messina Hof Grapevine Winery in Grapevine. Consumers can also purchase bottles of the wine through Messina Hof’s website.
As the largest producer of Texas wine, Messina Hof recently broke ground on its 4th winery location, Messina Hof Harvest Green Winery and Kitchen, which will open its doors to the Houston, Texas, area this winter.
Hi,
How exciting to see my mother’s family name ~ Bonarrigo ~ on your wonderful bottle of wine! We had a small family reunion of sorts yesterday, and my cousin came across your wine and surprised us all with a couple of bottles of the Bonarrigo Family Wines ~ we were all amazed as it was our Bonarrigo family reunion and all of us attending are part Bonarrigo!
My 95 year old mom is the last of her 10 brothers and sisters (Bonarrigo’s from Hyde Park, MA) it was so great for her to see her family name on a delicious bottle of wine! So much so that she took an empty bottle home with her, so she can keep it right next to her, and is loving the Bonarrigo cork! Bonarrigo, not very common name, I felt I had to reach out and tell you how much it made my moms day AND how much we all loved your wine!!

Carole I am happy that our wine provided joy. My family is from Guiltari Sicomino a small town outside of Messina. My Dad was born there and came to the Bronx at age 13. We are probably related. My Grandmother also from the same town was a Borgia. My email is [email protected]
