Wildwood Grilling is a U.S. based company currently selling wood products for grilling and cooking to enhance the flavors of food with various types of wood. The company is located in Sandpoint, Idaho and produces wooden planks, food wraps, and grilling chips. They also have the ability to put your company name, logo, or message on their wooden grilling planks as an added option for businesses. The company believes in sustainability and uses 100 percent of the wood fiber they produce so nothing is wasted.
The products we were provided to test were the cedar grilling wraps and grilling planks. Both products came fully wrapped in attractive packaging to help maintain the integrity and safety of the food safe items. Both also provided helpful on-package tips on how to best use the products, and the grilling planks label included a handy recipe with a creative idea for using the planks to make a smoky cheese appetizer.
The first product used was the grilling wraps. The package comes with eight per package and it only took two for the dinner of salmon wrapped in cedar with herbs that we prepared. The wraps are very aromatic, easy to use, very pliable, and did not present any issues wrapping each piece of fish in a wooden wrapper. They smelled wonderful while heating up on the stove and did impart a subtle taste of cedar into the fish. We loved these and would use them again.
The planks were also used to cook fish in the oven. We decided to try one of their online recipes for cod on a cedar plank with citrus and pepper. The plank was generous enough to cook two pieces of fish on one square. To use the planks, you have to prepare them ahead of time and allow them to soak in water about 15-20 minutes, but again, it was easy to use and smelled divine in the oven as the fish cooked. The fish was cooked well and did get that subtle hint of wood but was not overpowered with it. We definitely liked the ease of using these and would love to try this on the grill next time.
The company provides online recipes for consumers to get additional inspiration on ways to use their products with a wide variety of foods, including all types of meat and seafood in addition to appetizers and desserts. We found many interesting recipes for items we wanted to try and plan to continue using the items for more recipes as we find more ways to enjoy cooking and grilling with these items.
Their online shop features additional products for purchase and provides a broad selection of wood types for the planks including cedar, hickory, alder, maple, red oak, and cherry. You can purchase those by a specific wood type or via sampler sets with various combinations of woods. As for the grilling wraps, those are currently available in two woods, both alder and cedar. The site also offers cedar skewers, smoking chips, smoking blocks, and pellets and an assortment of flavored rubs to further enhance your grilling experience.
