          A winery makes wine and a vineyard grows grapes! Sometimes a winery can have a vineyard where they get their grapes from, but often a vineyard in Texas only grows grapes and then sells them to wineries.

28th Annual Gulf Coast Grape Grower Field Day is coming

Mark this date on your calendar – Friday, February 7th. This is the date of the 28th Annual Gulf Coast Grape Grower Field Day held annually in Cat Spring, Texas, and it will be held from 8:15 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Andrew Klein wrote about the 2019 event.

The 2020 event will also include different seminars throughout the day. This is the current agenda:

8:00 – 9:00 Registration / Sign In
8:15 – 9:15 OPTIONAL: New Grower Session (Grower Perspective), please RSVP
9:15 Welcome / Introductions
9:25 Essentials of Grapevine Diseases & Pests (Fran Pontasch)
9:45 Overview of Vineyard Management Tasks (Fritz Westover)
10:35 Vine Nutrition: Sampling & Interpretation (Dr. Justin Scheiner)
11:15 Bacteriophage: An approach for Managing Pierce’s Disease (Dr. Carlos Gonzales)
12:00 LUNCH with TWGGA Director Dacota Haselwood & Stephen Morgan
1:00 Laws & Regulations of Applying Pesticides (Dr. Don Renchie)
2:00 Herbemont, the Wine & the Grape (Dr. George Ray McEachern, Bill Christopher)
3:15 Managing pH in the Winery (Dr. Botezatu, Aaron Essary)

Registration begins at 8:00 a.m., is payable at the door, and includes lunch. Registration fee is:

  • $25 for Gulf Coast Winegrower Assoc
  • $35 for non-members
