Wedding Oak Winery at Burnet

The much-anticipated opening of Wedding Oak Winery’s new Burnet tasting room is officially Monday, September 9th. The opening was preceded with a wine club pick-up party the Sunday afternoon before. Managing partners Mike and Lynn McHenry, along with several new tasting room employees, were on hand to greet members, as well as their guests, in the newly renovated Badger Building on the historic Burnet County Courthouse Square on South Pierce Street. According to Mike, Burnet residents have been waiting as anxiously as the rest of us.

Guests were treated to live acoustic music from Mike Gallo on the new ground level patio, as well as a luncheon of grilled sausage, cheesy bacon new potato salad, dilled sour cream sliced cucumbers, rolls, cookies, and of course, 100% Texas wine. With wine in hand, guests were able to walk freely around the interior of the building. Our friendly guide, being a longtime friend of Mike’s, took us on a short tour of the facilities, pointing out the views from the second story window and showing us the upstairs patio, which is still being tiled.

According to Mike, the city’s specifications for renovation of the building were meticulous but should ensure that the Badger Building stands another hundred and thirty-one years! The interior space is a whopping 8,500 square feet and features an expansive tasting bar, a reserved lounge for wine club members only, two outside patios, an expansive air conditioned events room upstairs, as well as a beautiful wood and iron staircase and original stone walls throughout, which highlight the space’s historic feel. An elevator has also been installed for those guests who would otherwise not be able to visit the second floor. You would never know the upstairs of the building was home to quite a few nesting pigeons, per Mike. The interior was clean and beautiful with lots of cozy seating and natural light.

The wine club has recently been revamped to allow for smaller shipments on a more frequent basis, with discounts that range from 20% for the 12-bottle club, to 10% for the three-bottle club. Pick up months are now every February, April, June, September, and November. You can pick up at any location – handy for those Texas travelers out there who may want to check out each Wedding Oak location. New features of the wine clubs also include specially selected limited production wines for members only, a complimentary glass of wine or tasting for you and three guests each time you visit one of the tasting rooms, invitations to special events such as vertical tastings, blending trials, and wine education seminars for you and your guests, and special pricing for signature events such as Farm to Table, Venison and Vino, and the popular Valentine’s Dinner. They also have a dedicated wine club contact in Dyana Pemberton-Herrera, who was very helpful in getting our last-minute guests on the list of attendees on Sunday.

All wines in current production were being poured and we and our guests enjoyed:

  • 2015 Sangiovese
  • 2017 Albariño
  • Texedo Red

Members only reserves include:

  • 2018 Albariño
  • 2017 Montepulciano
  • 2017 Petite Verdot
  • 2015 and 2016 Tempranillo Reserva
  • 2018 Trebbiano

We can’t wait to make the new Wedding Oak tasting room a regular stop off on Sunday afternoons!
