In Lubbock, CapRock Winery made an announcement that two families have joined together to form a partnership to help put CapRock Winery on the top as one of the leading wineries in the state of Texas. CapRock Winery was purchased in January 2015 by the English family of John English with his parents Tommy and Jana English. Now the English family welcomes Steve and Cindy Newsom of Newsom Family Farms as partners.
The English family released the following statement:
“We believe that partnering with the Newsom family brings the missing element to making CapRock a top producer of quality Texas wines. Our two West Texas families have the work ethic, integrity, and passion required to bring wine lovers the best Texas wines available from one of the premier facilities in the state. We are excited about this venture and look forward to giving Lubbock, and the surrounding areas, a true highlight of the High Plains.”

Newsom Family Farms, located in Hockley County, has been growing quality wine grapes for the top wineries in Texas for over 10 years. With 20 varietals perfectly suited for the Texas High Plains, they ensure that the grapes are of the utmost quality. Newsom Family Farms uses sustainable farming practices, that are both environmentally friendly and socially responsible, and it has shown with the high quality of the grapes they grow.
Steve Newsom had this to say about the new partnership:
“We are very excited about the opportunity to partner with the English family, to produce premium Texas wines, and to grow the Texas wine industry. Not many growers have the privilege to work with such a fine family, let alone a top of the line facility such as CapRock Winery. Growing with the Lubbock community and with the Texas High Plains wine industry is something we very much look forward to.”
CapRock Winery also announced that Anthony Mosley will be the winemaker. Anthony has been making award-winning wines for many wineries throughout Texas.
When asked about the new opportunity, Mosley stated:
“I am excited to be a part of this venture, working out of one of the highest quality facilities in the state with some of the best grapes of the Texas High Plains AVA. My passion is making great wine, and this merger will provide all the tools I need to do so.”
With the ability for CapRock Winery to go from grape to bottle, all from the new partnership, CapRock Winery looks forward to producing more award winning Texas wines.
I personally am looking forward to the English/ Newsom coalition. Some of my favorite Texas wines have been Newsom grapes developed into award winning wines from several wineries.
I’m not sure if you’re thinking of Neal Newsom’s (not related to Steve) vineyard, but they both know how to grow fine grapes. CapRock Winery is in good hands!
