Becker Vineyards is a well-known name in the Fredericksburg area, and of course the Texas wine industry, for being one of the largest wine producers in the state. A visit to the winery is always educational finding many Texas wines on the tasting menu which are often different than the Becker Vineyards wines you may find in your local supermarket. Tours are available at the winery, sometimes impromptu, and a special Reserve Library Tasting tour is fantastic.
Because the winery is so popular, that means there are many people visiting the winery on Saturdays and often Sundays. The winery has done some things in the past to help that situation like a separate wine club tasting area. Now they have taken the next step which helps even more, opening a tasting room on Main Street in Fredericksburg.
Becker Vineyards – Main Street is located in the middle of Main Street in an old Buick dealership, and opened in late October 2017. The design of the tasting room inside and out also incorporates some of the identity from the old dealership. A large row of wine barrels (I assume empty of wine) lines the outside wall of the tasting room.
As is commonplace in a tasting room, a long tasting bar greets you as you enter. Tastings are the same price at the winery for six wines, which includes a souvenir Riedel wine glass. The same wines are at both locations, but that may change. Between the tables inside, outdoor seating, and also a private Wine Club Member Lounge, you should be able to find a comfortable place to enjoy a glass of wine after your tasting.
The winery has a great gift shop, and that hasn’t changed in the tasting room. A large selection of gifts, home décor, bath and body products with of course lavender, wine glasses, and more are available in the gift shop.
But the really nice thing about Becker Vineyards – Main Street is the opportunity to get the same great Becker wines, with hopefully being a little less crowded on a weekend. Now that may change once more people learn about the tasting room, but now that you know, head to Main Street and enjoy. The other good thing is the tasting room closes a little later than the winery, so if you are staying in Fredericksburg, you can enjoy some wine at a later time.
With the opening of Becker Vineyards – Main Street amidst currently eight other wineries and tasting rooms right on Main Street, downtown Fredericksburg is becoming the place to visit the Texas Hill Country without having to even drive anywhere else.
