On April 22, 2017, 18 Texas wineries served up 54 Texas wines at the second annual Rootstock: A Wine Festival in Waco. Wineries from as near as Valley Mills Vineyards and Waco Winery to as far away as Farmhouse Vineyards in Meadow on the High Plains, Bending Branch Winery in Comfort, and Blue Ostrich Winery & Vineyard in Saint Jo up on the Red River all brought a sampling of their wines and their knowledge to share with festival goers.
Each festival goer received 12 tasting tickets and logoed festival glass, a tasting guide with a listing of attending wineries and the wines they were pouring, and a festival t-shirt.
The outdoor park, located on the banks of the Brazos River in Indian Spring Park, was again the perfect venue. Many trees would have offered abundant shade, had the sun come out from behind the clouds at any time.
Several food vendors/trucks were available within the festival, including wood fired pizza and BBQ sliders. Cheese also pairs very well with wine and there was also a cheese vendor included in the festival. Just down the street within easy walking distance was a food truck park with numerous food choices. Wonderful musical acts were also included to add enjoyment to the day.
Awesome review! Thanks Laurie. As the festival coordinator, it was great to see people appreciating the event even in slightly less than ideal weather. Hopefully we will get some more sunshine next year for Rootstock 2018!
