A couple of weekends ago while enjoying some Texas wine, Jeff told me he had received an invitation to do a wine tour. He said he could bring one person along and asked me if I was interested in joining him. He hadn’t finished asking his question and I had already accepted.
So, last Sunday he and I went to the La Grange Uncorked Wine and Food Festival, courtesy of Toasting Texans, a new wine touring company, the brainchild of Ana Pedraza, Erika Chavez, and Marcos Garcia. This was Toasting Texans maiden voyage, and we were in for a great afternoon.
We were picked up at 2:35 p.m. at the Tasting Room in City Centre. As soon as the bus, a 34 leather seat, climate control, luxury unit arrived, we were welcomed by our hosts, boarded the bus, and soon found ourselves on our way to La Grange. To make the trip more enjoyable, we were treated to some mimosas, as well as a magic show and some accordion music. We arrived in La Grange at 4:00 o’clock and headed to the festival, but not before our hosts wrote down our phone numbers so they could communicate with the group.
The La Grange Uncorked Wine and Food Festival takes place every year on the Historic La Grange Square. Unlimited bites and water were available and a band provided live music entertainment. But Jeff and I were here for the wine, so we quickly started our visit of all the participating wineries, 14 wineries and 3 wine bars this year.
The wineries were set up inside different local businesses around the perimeter of the square. We were given a map each with the exact location of each winery. The maps entitled us to a tasting in each winery. We were told they use the map method instead of giving tickets to make sure that everyone visits every winery.
Well, time flies when you are having fun, and suddenly we received a text message to meet at the entrance to the festival at 7:00 and a few minutes later we started on our way back to Houston.
It was a great ending to my Spring Break vacation. Thank you Toasting Texans for a great afternoon and Jeff for asking me to come along. See you on the Wine Trail!
