As a new growing season emerges, wonderful things are on the horizon! Fresh compost is on the ground, and new leaves are on the vines ready to help make some stellar wines for the 2017 vintage. So long as Mother Nature cooperates to some extent, we could be in for a lovely growing season.
If you have been to Perissos Vineyard and Winery in Burnet, Texas lately, you may have seen the new production building being constructed. It is nearly complete, and that is not the only exciting thing happening around the winery…new wines are getting re-homed into their bottles for your enjoyment! Here is a teaser of a few new releases coming just around the bend. Viognier, Rosé, and Bella, oh my!
2016 Viognier – This grape is God’s gift to Texas if I may say so, and this powerhouse from Perissos doesn’t disappoint. It is full bodied, yet beautiful, and oh so aromatic. This bottling is complex, driven by floral notes dancing around citrus, melon, and stone fruits. The aromas change drastically as this wine warms up in the glass, which is quite fun.
- 100% Viognier, all estate grown fruit.
- 15.3% alcohol by volume <— Oh mama!
2016 Rosé – Traditional dry Rosé is no doubt making a huge come back worldwide, and Texas is in my opinion, helping to lead the charge. Our terroir is superb for producing gorgeous, Provence style Rosé wines. The 2016 release from Perissos is pretty and very refreshing. Strawberries, limes, and candied notes envelop the senses, while the bright acidity keeps you reaching for the bottle to refill your wine glass over and over.
- 40% Mourvèdre, 22% Grenache, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Petite Sirah, and 8% Malbec, all estate grown fruit.
- 13.0% alcohol by volume
2016 Bella – This is a wine that is released young, utilizes only 60 hours of skin contact, and no oak aging during the winemaking process. The result? An approachable wine that is super easy to drink, and although it is light bodied, there is no room for boredom on the palate. This blend is earthy, jammy, and very fruit forward. The mineral components are unmistakably Texas. What a great summer red this will be. Cutting through the heat, while sipping on a palate-friendly red wine.
- 70% Tempranillo, 10% Aglianico, 10% Malbec, and 10% Viognier. All estate grown fruit.
- 12.5% alcohol by volume
As you can see, there are some yummy delights coming to the tasting room in the not so distant future at Perissos. Once they release, feel free to pack a picnic, enjoy the scenic drive, and stop by the winery for some tasty Hill Country treats!
Sip, savor, and enjoy my fellow aficionados.
