In this episode of the Texas Wine Lover podcast, we do something different and instead of traveling to interview somebody, we take Texas Wine Lover reader’s questions about Texas wine and wine in general. Jeremy and Jeff do their best to answer everybody’s questions.
Some of the questions asked are:
- With so many wine blends available, what is the value to the Texas Wine Industry in making so many blends?
- Is a Texas wine still considered Texas if they purchase grapes/juice from New Mexico or California?
- Why is Texas wine so expensive?
That is just a sample of some of the questions asked. Listen to the podcast and find out all the questions asked and how Jeremy and Jeff answer them.
Sit back, relax, and enjoy this episode of the Texas Wine Lover Podcast.

Fun questions with knowledgeable answers. In reference to the question of “Why is Texas wine so expensive?”, it’s not always that way, especially in restaurants. Eating at Three Forks in Austin Monday night, the least expensive white wine on the extensive list was McPherson’s Viognier. I bought the last bottle of that the restaurant had, knowing it was very good value. Being a small commercial wine grape grower in Texas(3 acres) for 13 years, I have yet to make a profit, although the winery I sell my grapes to pays me well. I think Jeremy and Jeff were correct in their answer that our smallness generally makes us expensive. HOWEVER, times are changing with the development of the very large vineyards in the High Plains and increasing size of wineries. There are economies of scale as in all businesses.
