Yellow Brick Road Winery is located in Sealy and is owned by Denyce Treybig. The winery opened December 2014 and is located in a great location not far off I-10 and about 35 minutes west of West Houston.
We found the winery easily without needing GPS coordinates, and on the 50 acre lot is a 1940’s farmhouse converted into tasting room, production building, and a one acre vineyard of Blanc du Bois. Denyce is the vineyard manager and is taking advice from Blanc du Bois expert Jerry Watson who has his own Austin County Vineyards.
A large patio wooden deck outside the tasting room beckons you into the tasting room. We have been into some older houses converted into tasting rooms and were very pleasantly surprised when we entered Yellow Brick Road Winery’s tasting room and it was like a modern house after the remodeling. On the right is the tasting bar, the left has tables, and on the other side of the left side is more comfortable seating, but in the rear corner is the drawing card for the winery with multiple musical instruments including a baby grand piano, hence coming the name, the piano winery. Recorded piano music was playing making it a nice setting to enjoy a glass of wine.
We first met Denyce Treybig behind the tasting bar while we sat down to do a tasting. Denyce explained even though they are open during the day, many customers arrive in the evening to enjoy wine and the atmosphere. We could understand that with the atmosphere like a piano bar and having the ability to talk to each other while listening to pleasant music.
Tastings are done at the tasting bar and there is a tasting fee for four wines, even though Denyce said she surprises people with an off-menu dessert wine at the end. The tasting glass can be purchased for a little bit more with the tasting fee and is less expensive than if you purchased the glass by itself. Crackers are provided during the tasting to cleanse your palate. If you are hungry, you can also purchase a meat and cheese plate or a vegan cheese and fruit plate.
Yellow Brick Road Winery has two wines of their own made by Denyce, the winemaker. They are supplementing the wine list now with quality wines from around the world including Napa and Argentina. Even though there are only two wines right now, there should be four more wines by the end of the year including a wine appropriately called Symphony.
The two wines right now are a white blend (Pinot Grigio and Muscadine) and a red blend (Petite Shiraz and Cabernet Franc). As mentioned, there are a number of wines from around the world including white, red, blush, and dessert wines.
While tasting, we got the chance to meet Gerry Math. Gerry is a composer and concert pianist. We soon learned that the pre-recorded music is played while Gerry takes a break. The other times he is playing the musical instruments.
When we first heard him playing, he was serenading a table with the violin playing the theme song “My Heart Will Go On” from the movie Titanic. Later, we found Gerry behind the piano playing another piece. We could definitely understand why people would attend the piano winery to enjoy wine and listen to the live music.
There are many events held at the winery including single nights, bring your dog out, and more. Keep watching their Facebook page for future events.

Denyce Treybig and Gerry Math
If you want to visit a winery where you can sit, relax, and listen to live music, do not hesitate to stop by Yellow Brick Road Winery.
Well….that’s not a real academy award, and I can’t find ANYTHING listing any accomplishments of Gerry Math….the composer of Titanic was James Horner
Thanks for the reply. Looks like you may want to visit Yellow Brick Road Winery and talk to him directly. You may also be able to ask him on the phone. Let us know how it goes!

The Philosophy
Music and wine have been paired together for centuries, so why separate them at the source? At Yellow Brick Road Winery, we believe the two should not only be paired in the home, but also at the point of origin. Yellow Brick Road Winery works to not only create fine wine, but to create a distinguished venue atmosphere through fine live music.
The Musician
Gerry MathYellow Brick Road Winery began in 2012 when accomplished concert pianist and 4 time academy award winning Gerry Math purchased the land which would be the future vineyard of Yellow Brick Road Winery. Math played Phantom of the Opera on Broadway, and created musical scores that have been used in 14 motion pictures. He has received recognition for 14 Academy Award nominations and four Academy Awards for his contributions to the musical scores for some big Hollywood movies including Titanic, Forrest Gump, Last of the Mohicans and Legends of the Fall.
Gerry is currently writing music for Avatar 2. He played four years in New York on Broadway for the highly acclaimedPhantom of the Opera and played for the Queen’s birthday. Come relax, enjoy some lovely wines and experience the gorgeous Texas sunset as you sit over-looking the vineyard at the new concert venue and tasting room at Yellow Brick Road Winery.
A composer, a piano and a winery- like no other you’ve ever experienced.
Absolutely fantastic. This is winery has the whole package. Wonderful staff, Pleasant and Relaxing Atmosphere, and of course Amazing Wine.
Of the dozens of wineries my Wife and I have visited in Texas, Yellow Brick Road is the warmest, most genuine, and loving we have visited. Academy awards on their shelf are real.. as are Gerry and Denyce.
Great comments!
