A winery makes wine and a vineyard grows grapes! Sometimes a winery can have a vineyard where they get their grapes from, but often a vineyard in Texas only grows grapes and then sells them to wineries.

Armadillo’s Leap Tasting Room to Open

December 6, 2015 by Jeff Cope Leave a Comment

Armadillo's Leap

Seven years to the day that Pedernales Cellars opened its tasting room doors to the public in Stonewall – December 8, 2008 – the Kuhlken-Osterberg family is opening a new tasting room in Fredericksburg, this coming Tuesday, for its Armadillo’s Leap wines.

The tasting room, located at 6258 Highway 290 in Fredericksburg (just east of Ranch Road 1376), will showcase the Armadillo’s Leap wines that the Kuhlken-Osterberg family launched several years ago. The wines, which range in price from $14.99 to $29.99 per bottle, include a Sparkling Moscato, a Viognier-Roussanne blend, a red blend (cheekily called “BFF”), a Viognier, and a Muscat. Those wines (plus an older vintage Armadillo’s Leap red blend, in limited supply) appear on the tasting room’s six-wine tasting menu for $10 a person.

“We’re delighted to be opening this new tasting room directly on the 290 Wine Trail,” said Julie Kuhlken, co-owner of Armadillo’s Leap. “We’ve enjoyed launching Armadillo’s Leap and creating this brand of wines, and we felt the time was right to give them a higher profile with their own tasting room. We look forward to more people discovering how fun they are, starting with a label that pays homage, albeit tongue-in-cheek, to a truly Texas animal.”

Armadillo’s Leap also includes a wine club; members are eligible for access to special events and preferred pricing for tasting room purchases. The wine club is free to join with no long-term obligation.

The tasting room will be open 11-6 every day, save for Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day.

For more information about the tasting room and Armadillo’s Leap wines, visit the winery’s new website at www.armadillosleap.com and at its Facebook page, www.facebook.com/ArmadillosLeap.
