Pedernales Cellars is celebrating Texas Wine Month with two dinner events, one in San Antonio and one in the Texas Hill Country, featuring the latest editions of familiar Pedernales Cellars wines.
The winery’s public debut of Texas Valhalla, recently shipped to Pedernales Cellars Wine Club members in anticipation of Texas Wine Month, will be at the Texas Fine Wine Dinner at Duchman Winery in Driftwood on Friday, October 23 from 7-9 p.m. The red blend, which incorporates Tempranillo, Montepulciano, and Aglianico grapes, is the first in what Pedernales Cellars sees as an adventuresome annual varietal series unafraid to mix grapes traditionally from both Spanish and Italian regions. Though the wine is only available to wine club members currently, a limited number of cases could be made available to the tasting room as early as late October.
The Valhalla name also acknowledges the history of the two couples who founded and co-own Pedernales Cellars. For David and Heather Kuhlken, it harkens back to Rice University where they met and fell in love; Valhalla is the name of a popular on-campus bar and meeting place. For Julie Kuhlken and Frederik Osterberg, it’s evocative of the Norse mythology of Osterberg’s native Sweden.
In addition to the Texas Fine Wine dinner at Duchman Winery – which will include wines from Pedernales Cellars and the other Texas Fine Wine consortium partners – Pedernales Cellars will host its own five-course wine dinner, for which each course paired with a Pedernales Cellars wine, at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse in San Antonio’s Concord Plaza (7720 Jones Maltsberger), on Thursday, Oct. 1 from 7:00-9:30 p.m.
