Father’s Day is less than a week away, and I am sure there are many of you out there wondering what to get dear old dad this year for his special day. The team at Texas Wine Lover is on the case and we have assembled a list of our top 5 recommended wine related gifts, for all the wine loving fathers out there. As we know, there is no need to “buy” dad anything to show how much we love and appreciate him, but if you are looking for that perfect wine related gift, we hope these ideas will help you narrow it down.
Private/ Reserve tasting at a Texas winery
There are a multitude of wineries all over Texas that offer either Private Tastings, Reserve Tastings, or both. These tastings are intimate events that include one-on-one wine service typically including library or limited release wines, barrel tastings, winery tours, and often gourmet food as part of the package. In my opinion, this is the absolute best way to get to know the winery and winery staff at a much higher level. Be sure and call ahead to plan for these events, as they are almost always by appointment only. A table for two in the barrel room for you and dad could be a great time!
Texas Wine Club membership
What better way to show dad some love than to surprise him with a membership to his favorite Texas winery! Nearly all of our state’s wineries have a wine club and they all have their own benefits and perks. Simply contact the winery of your choice and set up the new membership either in person, by phone, or via their website. Multiple options are available depending on the level of membership you decide to choose, which makes joining a wine club a very simple and fun process.
Coravin
Does Pops often wonder when he should be popping the corks on his aging wines? A Coravin wine preserver/extractor could be just what the doctor ordered this Father’s Day. The Coravin is an easy to use instrument which is used to extract measured samples from a wine bottle via needle through the cork, without damaging the cork itself which also allows it to re-seal, so the remaining wine in the bottle stays untouched as if it had never happened at all. This is a wine gadget every serious aficionado should have in his arsenal. Order the Coravin on Amazon.
High quality corkscrew
I am sure many dad’s out there have gone through their share of cheap and short lived corkscrews over the years. Isn’t it time to invest in a top end wine opener which can even be customized with his name or initials on it? Finally, a wine key he can enjoy and show off to his wine friends for many years to come. Some good places to find such corkscrews are from Laguiole imports either via their Amazon storefront or website, but if you really want to splurge on dad, you can order a handmade stainless steel wine key from Code38.
Riedel wine glasses
They say diamonds are a woman’s best friend. Does that make German crystal a man’s best friend? One can argue that a thin rimmed, varietal specific Riedel glass can change the way we taste wine. I think the fathers out there might feel the same way. You can purchase, single glasses, sets of 2 or 4, and even full collections of both stemmed and stemless Riedel glasses. This company has been innovating the way we perceive wine for a long time now, and they have become the most respected and sought after wine glass company in the world. You can find Riedel glasses at your local retailers, and online via Amazon and their webpage.
