Update: Armadillo’s Leap Winery is now open.
There will be a new tasting room opening on Wine Road 290 later this year in Fredericksburg. Dates for a soft opening and official Grand Opening celebration are still to be determined.
Armadillo’s Leap is a winery created several years ago by the Kuhlken-Osterberg family, best known in Texas wine circles for founding Kuhlken Vineyards and Pedernales Cellars. Armadillo’s Leap, as its tongue-in-cheek name suggests, is the family’s chance to have fun while giving back to the Texas community. A dollar from every case of wine sold in its soon to open tasting room will go to charity; for 2015-16, the family has decided to honor the winery’s namesake and give to Westcave Outdoor Discovery Center, which is devoted to preserving the Texas landscape for the outdoor education of Texas children and families.
Armadillo’s Leap will open its tasting room in the former location of the Pink Pig restaurant a few minutes east of downtown Fredericksburg (6266 Hwy 290, Fredericksburg). The initial offering will be a range of white and red blends, varietal Viognier and Muscat, and a sparkling wine. The wines will range in price from $15-$30, and a tasting menu will also be available.
