2014 Jefferson Cup Invitational Results – Texas Wineries

As we previously posted, Pedernales Cellars was the lone Texas winery who won a Jefferson Cup in the 2014 Jefferson Cup Invitational. The Kansas City-based wine competition is different than other wine competitions since instead of paying an entrance fee, the Jefferson Cup wines are nominated. The 2014 competition included wines from 25 states however only 14 states won Jefferson Cups.

This year, out of over 740 chosen wines, the judges selected just over 320 wines to receive the “Medals of American Merit,” which celebrates wines exemplary of their regions and varieties, and is comparable to a Silver Medal at most competitions. Next the judges chose 190 wines that they believed were truly great wines, roughly equivalent to Gold Medals in other competitions. Those will receive medallions announcing them as “Medals of American Excellence.”

This year, 95 wines were selected as Jefferson Cup nominees; these wines were nominated by the six judging committees to be considered for Jefferson Cups. Out of those 96 honored wines, the judges collectively picked 38 wines to be awarded the Jefferson Cup.
