It’s that time of year again folks! The Christmas season is upon us, with family, food, and great wine all being part of the grand agenda. Every year there are Christmas Swirls in the towns around Texas and this year I had the pleasure of representing Kuhlman Cellars at the 2014 Lost Pines Christmas Swirl in Bastrop, Texas. Cripple Creek and Company hosted us, with owner DeeDee Peddy at the helm. When I arrived, she had everything organized and well prepared for the event. I set up our wines at the bar inside Cripple Creek along-side Pedernales Cellars, who was represented by my old sidekick, Ceci Barretto.

The event was held Thursday, December 11th, 2014 from 5-9 pm. There were 13 wineries pouring their wines at designated locations within the historic downtown area. There were a total of 300 tickets available for this year’s Swirl, and all were sold out prior to the event. Each ticket holder was given a wristband with removable tabs to serve as their tickets for each pour of wine.
Here is a list of wineries that participated in the Lost Pines Christmas Swirl this year:
- Colorado River Winery
- Dionisio Winery
- Dry Comal Creek
- Fiesta Winery
- Flat Creek Estate Winery
- Kuhlman Cellars
- Majek Winery
- Messina Hof Winery
- Pedernales Cellars
- Pilot Knob Winery
- Pleasant Hill Winery
- Texas Legato Winery
- Wedding Oak Winery
I must say that my overall experience at this gala was superb. DeeDee and the staff at Cripple Creek did everything right and made sure that all of the guests who walked through the front door had the most amazing and memorable experience possible. I brought two wines from Kuhlman Cellars to pour for the event: our Sauvignon Blanc and Alluvé. The wines went over very well and by the end of the evening people were coming into the store off the streets asking for Alluvé by name! Not only are there great Texas artisan crafts and foods, but the Texas Wine selection is very good, with a broad spectrum of styles and many stellar bottles on the shelves.
