Texas wines from William Chris Vineyards earned three medals – two gold and one silver – at the 2014 Concours International de Lyon, France.
Chris Brundrett, co-owner of William Chris Vineyards, said, “While our Texas wine growing focuses on sharing a piece of our world with our guests here in the Hill Country, the competition in Lyon, France is important in that it allows us to benchmark a few wines we believe are special for the future of Texas wine. The 2012 Mourvèdre, which comes from a 7 year project working with Andy Timmons’ Lost Draw Vineyards in the High Plains, is one of those special wines. We think Mourvèdre has a big future in Texas, and it’s exciting to see it earn a gold medal in France, where the Mourvèdre is an important part of major wine regions including the Rhone and Provence.”
Bill Blackmon, co-owner of William Chris Vineyards, said, “We’re very happy that our flagship wine, the 2012 Enchanté, also received a gold medal in France. This is a Bordeaux-inspired blend made from grapes grown right here in the Texas Hill Country. As Texas vineyards mature, and our methods remain focused on producing regionally distinct wines true to their origin, we will continue to see quality in the bottle. It’s an exciting time for Texas wine, and we are pleased to share a piece of our world with wine lovers in France.”
The Mary Ruth 2013 won a Silver medal at the Concours International de Lyon competition.
The 2012 Mourvèdre will be featured at the Grand Tasting of the 2014 TEXSOM wine conference on Monday, August 11 at the Four Seasons Resort in Las Colinas.
