There are few people in this world that can light up a person’s day with just a simple greeting. One such person in the Messina Hof family is Michael Broussard, assistant retail manager. With his infectious energy and candid demeanor, Michael has been a beloved member by staff and customers alike for nearly six years. In fact, many of our customers return time and again to Messina Hof just to visit Michael and have him lead them on a tour filled not only with the history of Messina Hof but with bouts of laughter.
Michael has watched Messina Hof grow into the vast estate and wine destination that it is today. When asked what he most enjoys about working at Messina Hof he answered, “Simply, the people. Every time there is an event I feel as though I’m attending a family reunion. I have formed many relationships with customers and value each and every one of them. I also enjoy the atmosphere of Messina Hof and the people I work with. It is the reason I wake up every day with a smile on my face. I absolutely love coming to work!”
Michael is originally from San Francisco and relocated to Texas to be closer to his brother, a professor at Texas A&M University in College Station. On his second day in Texas, Michael’s brother invited him to the 5k Run Thru the Vines event at Messina Hof. Michael stepped foot on the property and fell in love with the winery. He was promptly encouraged to apply for a job and was hired.
“Messina Hof immediately felt like family and the Bonarrigos welcomed me with open arms,” says Michael while reminiscing about that day. In his duties, Michael trains all new employees on wine and product knowledge, keeps guests well supplied with award-winning wines, in addition to sharing the latest news on all the happenings at the property. He helps VIP/Wine Club members with their memberships and makes them feel extra special. Michael tells us, “I was awarded a plaque for my five-year anniversary from Paul & Merrill Bonarrigo that I will treasure forever.”
Michael adds that his favorite Messina Hof wines are the Paulo Cabernet Sauvignon 2010, Sweet Sangria, and Paulo Port (any year). The next time you visit Messina Hof in Bryan, be sure to tell Michael hello and be prepared to giggle your way through a tasting. You’ll soon feel the family vibe he gushes about and he’ll make you feel right at home.
Love the visits and the wine.
I have to agree.
Agreed! Michael did a tasting for us on one of our visits and I have to say that it was a blast!
Uh huh!
Loved the article! I have been delivering custom “grape cluster truffles” to Michael for 3 years and the best part of my trip is to see Michael! Thanks for recognizing my friend.
Thanks. I’m glad they let me share it with everybody else.
I read the article last week in the VIP newsletter and was so pleased to see it posted here this morning.
Michael is one of my very favorite people at the winery; his warmth and wonderfulness turn on even before his smile does! Michael is rare gem and I simply adore him whether he is behind the bar in the retail room, doing a tour or walking through an area of the winery, his infectious personality will grab you and smile to your soul and that doesn’t work he may grab you dance! LOL…..Love you Michael B 😉 Tanya K.

We stopped the first time in Bryan last November before Thanksgiving and was greeted by Michael. We go often to Fredericksburg since it is closer to our home. This time we were on our way to Houston and stopped to have a glass of wine. We had a wonderful time with him and will definitely stop again visit and have a glass of Paulo Port. He made our day very special.
We definitely agree. Michael is fantastic!
