Texas Hill Country, Hye, Texas – The wine industry in Texas is growing exponentially and a need for more vineyards and quality fruit has been recognized. Texas Hill Country Wineries has partnered with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Viticulture and Fruit Lab to bring education for existing, new and future growers in the Hill Country. The series of three Grower Field Days will take place in 2013 with the 4th in early 2014 and include a variety of topics and seminars.
The first Field Day will be on Friday, September 27, hosted by William Chris Vineyards in Hye. Growers will enjoy lunch with an Industry Tasting by sharing wines from their vineyards or winery. Topics for the day include: Bringing Young Vines into Production, Vine Economics, Grower/Winery Communications, Cotton Root Rot Research Update and Pierce’s Disease Variety Trials Update. The lead speaker of the events is Jim Kamas, Asst. Professor & Extension Horticulturist at A&M. The day will wind down with another tasting of Hill Country wines.
Texas wine consumers and supporters are a big reason for the growth the industry has seen. Each Field Day event will consist of consumer education followed by an entertaining evening event with the chance to spend time with growers, winemakers and winery owners. The William Chris event will include a Wine Tasting and Production Seminar with members of the William Chris team. The evening will conclude with a 4-course meal prepared by local Hill Country restaurants each taking a different course.
All proceeds from these events will be donated to the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Viticulture and Fruit Lab for continued research projects, education and the growth of the Texas Wine Industry.
