Torre di Pietra is located in Fredericksburg and is owned by Ken and Jenise Maxwell. The winemaker is Ken Maxwell with Don Pullum from Sandstone Cellars Winery providing consulting.
We usually visit Torre di Pietra on a Saturday because they hold live music every Saturday. You can listen to the music from their piazza and patios. In fact, Torre di Pietra has won our award of Best Live Music two years in a row now. Besides the live music on Saturdays they also have an occasional festival. We enjoyed a chili cook-off one time when visiting.
While visiting for live music or an event, you of course have to get a glass of wine or do a tasting. The tasting room is kind of dark and sometimes it takes a little while to get your eyes adjusted. The tastings are done while standing at the tasting bar. There is a tasting fee for your choice of six wines and they are poured with a measured pourer.
Torre di Pietra uses only 100% Texas grapes. They have vineyards located in the Texas Hill Country American Viticultural Area (AVA) in Doss and Fredericksburg. Ten grape varietals are grown in their vineyards. Torre di Pietra produces 8,000-10,000 cases of wine a year.
There is a nice gift shop with clothing and wine accessories. There are also jams, olive oils, vinegars, pasta, and cheese and deli plates to enjoy with your wine.
Weddings are held at Torre di Pietra along with parties and corporate events. There is a large covered outdoor pavilion that can accommodate up to 150 guests year-round and this is often where the live music is held.
Make a point to stop at Torre di Pietra, especially if you are on Wine Road 290 on a Saturday. Torre di Pietra is on the Texas Hill Country Wine Trail and the Wine Road 290 Wine Trail.
