Three Dudes Winery is located in San Marcos. The winery gets its name from the three men who built the winery in 2005. It was designed and constructed by Terry Alford, Jeff Felderhoff, and Ron Pontiff. The winery also has a Brittany spaniel dog named Fideaux (pronounced Fido) who hangs out at the winery. When not at the winery, he lives with Terry Alford.
When we helped pour wine at a wine festival, Three Dudes Winery was there, and ironically, I was going to be in the San Marcos area a week later. That meant it was time for me to make a return visit to the winery.
Upon entering the winery, the tasting bar is on the left and tables are also in the tasting room. I met Jessie again who was at the wine festival.
You stand at the tasting bar or sit at a table to do a tasting. There are two tasting fees. The lower-priced fee is called classic and includes five wines. The higher-priced fee is called premium which includes all wines plus port and frozen slushes which are Peach and Sangria slush. The Peach slush uses White Zinfandel and the Sangria slush uses Merlot.
The uncorked bottles are poured from the bottle for the tasting except for the port which is served by measured pourer. Crackers are available to cleanse your palate and chocolate is offered for the port. You can also buy a cheese and cracker plate.
There is a gift shop which has clothing and wine accessories. Three Dudes Winery also has a wine club.
The three owners decided early on that all of their wines would be 100% Texas wines, made from 100% Texas-grown grapes. They use grapes mostly from the High Plains and Fort Stockton. Tours are available of the production facility. Three Dudes Winery uses all stainless steel tanks to make their wine with oak chips used for some flavor. They make around 1,000 cases of wine a year.
Live music is provided at the winery. In addition, the winery can host many types of outdoor events including weddings, birthdays, and company events.
Be sure to visit Three Dudes Winery when you are in the San Marcos area.
