Delaney Vineyards & Winery is located in Grapevine. It is one of the only wineries in Grapevine which actually has a vineyard next to the winery. The winery is owned by Jerry Delaney. The winery was completed in 1996 and the first bottling production was in the summer of 1997.
I stopped at Delaney Vineyards & Winery during my tour of the Grapevine wineries. The winery is a beautiful 8,000 square foot French chateau inspired building with a 10 acre vineyard next to the winery. The vineyard of Cynthiana grapes was planted in 1993. Cynthiana grapes closely resemble Norton grapes but are traditionally considered a separate variety.
As you enter the winery, there is a large room to the right with the gift shop. Ahead is the entrance to the large event room and tasting bar. The large event room is a 5,200 square foot Grand Barrel Room with capacity for 300 seated guests. Interior brick walls are lined with oak wine barrels. The 40 foot vaulted ceiling room has an Italian granite tasting bar.
Tours are held on the hour and tastings are held on the half hour. I chose to take a tour followed by a tasting. The tour guide gave a nice, but short tour of the winery and production facility. The tank room is a 1,000 square foot room with stainless steel tanks. Our tour guide was then the tasting guide.
You stand at the tasting bar in the Grand Barrel Room to do a tasting. There is a tasting fee for five wines. The uncorked bottles are poured using a measured pourer for the tasting. Crackers are available during the tasting. Along with the wine tastings, a Bellini mix with peach Bellini and their Muscat is served.
Live music is held every Thursday night. Weddings are usually held every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. When I visited, they were setting up the large event room for a wedding. Other special events such as weddings, corporate meetings, and parties are held at the winery. Private labels are available for use on Delaney Vineyards & Winery’s wines.
Delaney Vineyards & Winery also has a location in Lamesa which used to give tours and tastings by appointment, but now that is just a working winery not open to the public. The 120 acre vineyard at the facility was planted in the early 1980’s and grows the bulk of the grapes used in Delaney Vineyards & Winery estate Texas wines. The vineyard grows grapes such as Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Sauvignon Blanc, and Petit Verdot.
If you want to see the largest winery in Grapevine and probably North Texas, then make a point to stop by Delaney Vineyards & Winery.
