Update: The free vineyard tours was a limited time offer at Perissos Vineyard and Winery.
Want to see a great estate vineyard for free? Then you simply need to head to Perissos Vineyards and Winery between now and harvest (around August 15th). They are giving free vineyard tours which last 20-40 minutes and you can enjoy tasting grapes off the vine. You then have the option to head home but you will want to go in the tasting room and taste the wine made from those grapes.
We took advantage of this great offer and took the second vineyard tour offered of the year. Owner/winemaker Seth Martin is most likely the person who will give the tour and he gave us our tour.
He showed us the different varieties of grapes he grows right outside the winery and we got to taste some grapes. Some were not really ready for tasting yet as they have a longer growing season, but the ones which were ready were great. It was interesting tasting the grapes and imagining what the finished wine would be like. We are fans of Muscat Canelli and those grapes tasted very close to what a Muscat Canelli wine tastes like.
Seth gave a very interesting tour and explained a lot about the different grapes he grows and then uses to make his Texas wine. And speaking of wine, after the tour you will definitely want to go into the winery and do a wine tasting. In the recent 2012 Lone Star International Wine Competition, Perissos submitted six wines and were awarded six medals (five silvers and one bronze). Five of the six wines were estate grown.
Check the website link above for Perissos and make an appointment now to take a vineyard tour. There are only four tours given from Friday through Sunday so plan ahead!
