Gloria and I were invited to the Kiepersol Estates Distillery and Tasting Rooms Premiere so we made plans to visit other wineries in East Texas for the weekend too. We both had the Friday off and that gave us more time to plan something for our East Texas road trip. http://www.coloradoriverwinery.com Colorado River Winery is located in Bastrop and is owned by Brad and Sylvia Cook. The winery opened in December, 2013. I visited the winery before it was officially open during the 2013 Lost Pines Christmas Swirl. I then returned to visit after they opened.

http://www.zinvalle.com Zin Valle Vineyards is located in Canutillo which is near El Paso and is owned by Victor and Kathi Poulos. In August 2000 they purchased ten acres of land in the Mesilla Valley Appellation (AVA). The AVA is located both in Texas and New Mexico, and the portion in Texas is located north and west of El Paso. They first planted Zinfandel grapes. Today they also grow Gewürztraminer and Malvasia on four acres.

http://winesofnolancreek.com Nolan Creek Winery is located in downtown Belton and is owned by Phil Monge and Vira Chudasma. The urban winery opened in February 2013. I found the winery in “The Gin” which is a marketplace in Belton with restaurants and stores. As their website states, “they have joined winemaking with a wine bar,” and what a nice wine bar with a large wine selection they have. The menu is often changed so it is different.

They planted a vineyard in 2006 and the winery opened Labor Day weekend in 2013. In July 2004, Ellis and Susan purchased approximately 80 acres of land in Hamilton County. The vineyard was first established in 1985 with Cabernet and Riesling being planted in the first two fields. In 2008, San Angelo natives Drexell “Drex” and Nancy Vincent purchased the estate. The winery was established by Italian immigrant Frank Qualia in 1883. When he arrived in Del Rio, he found Lenoir grapes growing and founded the winery.
