Visiting the Great Texas Wineries and Enjoying Wine
There are a lot of wine festivals in the spring and summer and they are growing all the time as people enjoy getting together and enjoying wine together. One of the newest wine festivals is the 2013 inaugural Pittsburg Art and Wine Festival located in the Historic District of downtown Pittsburg will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2013 from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The 2013 Sugar Land Wine & Food Affair will be held from April 24 – 28. This year marks the 10th year of the festival and is expected to attract more than 7,000 attendees over the five day event. Proceeds support a permanent scholarship endowment at the University of Houston Conrad N. Hilton College of Hotel and Restaurant Management. It was designed and constructed by Terry Alford, Jeff Felderhoff, and Ron Pontiff. The winery also has a Brittany spaniel dog named Fideaux (pronounced Fido) who hangs out at the winery. http://www.enchantedmanorwinery.com The Enchanted Manor Meadery is located in Magnolia and is owned by Jonathan Odom. The meadery opened in 2010. We have stopped a couple times at Enchanted Manor and it is convenient for us because they are located on the way to the Texas Renaissance Festival which is held each year in October and November. This has been a wine festival autumn for us. We have attended two wine festivals and volunteered to pour wine at two other wine festivals and that is a record for us. We did not have any intention of driving to Fredericksburg for another wine festival until two party friends of the family, Rick and Jill, were looking for somebody to visit wineries in Fredericksburg. This weekend there were at least five wine festivals taking place in the state of Texas. Like last year we volunteered to help pour for a winery at the Old Town Spring Autumn Art & Texas Wine Festival. When we arrived at the festival, we discovered we were both pouring for Messina Hof. This is the 2nd annual festival and will have at least 10 Texas wineries in addition to local art and artisans. Their first vintage was in August 1999 and the grand opening of the winery was on June 1, 2001. The winery sits on an 80 acre ranch with a 23 acre vineyard.
